Snk Interview: Kaji Yūki and Kamiya Hiroshi

When I saw erens-jaeger-bombs post about how the interview with Kaji and Kamiya have not been translated, I went on Weibo and dug around. What I found was a Chinese translation of the interview. So I did my best and translated the snippet. I am sure that there are more, but I think I’ve got most of them.

Note: VERY rough translation (Japanese>Chinese>English) of the interview. Please gently point out mistakes if there are some, also this is my first time translating something so long, please be kind.

Q: “你觉得利威尔兵长也会有表扬艾伦的时候么？”

“Do you think that there are times when Captain Levi would praise Eren?”

Kaji：“利威尔在想啥他完全不懂呢，当然如果艾伦被表扬的话肯定是会高兴的，因为是上司啊。还有他和卡米亚桑平时相处得很好，是很重要的前辈，有时候因为工作一天能碰上好几次，利威尔和艾伦也会有这种的碰面吧，所以他们之间肯定会有羁绊，虽然肯定不会被轻易表扬的啦，但是很重要的同伴吧，…但愿？”｛笑｝

“ He (Eren) doesn’t have a clue as to what Levi’s thinking. Of course, Eren definitely would be really happy if he was praised, because (Levi) is (his) superior. Also, he (Kaji) and Kamiya-san normally get along very well, (he) is a very important senpai. Sometimes they would meet each other numerous times because of work, so of course there would be some sort of restriction* between them. Although (Eren) wouldn’t be praised easily, but (they) are very important companions, …(I) hope so? ” [Laughs]

* The ‘Restriction’ meant that they are somewhat kept close to each other. ‘羁绊’ is a very tricky word, but it generally means ‘restricted’ or 'trapped’.

Kamiya Hiroshi:

Q：你对利威尔怎么看艾伦这件事，有什么想法？
“What are your thoughts on how Levi sees Eren?”

Kamiya：“他一直觉得没有谁会是那种莫名其妙来历不明的家伙，他认为对利威尔来说【活下来】才是最重要的目的，而这个【活下来】里有没有包含艾伦他不知道，现在只是遵照埃尔文的命令把艾伦留在身边而已，如果没有命令，可能也不会再了吧，这么想的话果然是因为艾伦的不确定因素，巨人的能力，大概自己能杀得了他，最后万一发生了啥解决他必须是自己吧，但是，就像Kaji所说的，他们出生入死了很多次，彼此之间会有同伴意识变成，然后大概也会渐渐演变成感情之类的东西吧。”

“ He (Levi) never thought that someone would be so baffling and unclear* . He (Kamiya) thinks that “Staying alive” is the most important priority in Levi’s case. But he doesn’t know whether this “Staying Alive” includes Eren or not. Levi’s only obeying Erwin’s order to keep Eren close for now. If there was no order, (he) probably wouldn’t be there. If it’s like that, sure enough it is because Eren’s an unstable element. The power to turn into a Titan… (Levi) would probably kill him himself. If anything happens later on the one to finish him (Eren) would be himself (Levi). However, just like how Kaji said it, they had faced death so many times, they would come to be aware of each other then it would probably develop into something like a bond**.“

* '莫名其妙’&'来历不明’ are two separate Chengyu, each separately translates to 'without a logical reason/weird” and 'with an unclear origin’.
** Aside from 'bond’, '感情’ also translates to 'feeling/sentient’ or even 'attachment/affection’. Again, this is a very loose meaning, understand with caution.

Bonus Q&A with Kaji Yūki:

Q：“后篇利威尔的镜头有大幅增加，Kaji对利威尔有什么印象？”
“In the later episodes, Levi’s appearance increased by a big amount, what are your impressions on Levi?”

Kaji Yūki：“压倒性的存在，无论怎样都无法战胜的存在。”
“An overwhelming sense of presence, a presence that cannot be defeated no Matter what.”

Q：“这种压倒性的存在感，从神谷的演技中也感受到了吗?”
“Have (you) felt this kind of overwhelming presence from Hiroshi’s acting?”

Kaji Yūki：“不是用气势和力气来压倒对手，而是用 ［柔软的强大］。”
“It is not using momentum and/or strength to overwhelm the opponent, but a “gentle kind of mightiness”.
